看BBC學英文｜以北方強力鐵路報導為例

Step 1：先抓大意（Reading Skimming）

這篇文章主要講的是：

• 英國北部的高速鐵路計畫（Northern Powerhouse Rail）再次延遲。
• 原本預期首相會在工黨大會上宣布，但因為成本問題被推遲。
• 政府說「仍然完全承諾」要推進計畫，但要避免像 HS2 那樣的延誤與爭議。
• 這條鐵路對英國北部的經濟發展和交通非常重要，但因為多次更動，地方民眾和市長們都在等一個明確方案。

Step 2：挑出關鍵單字（Vocabulary Building）

以下列幾個新聞裡的單字，你可以把它們做成自己的生字卡：

• delay (v./n.) 延遲
• concerns over 對…的擔憂
• revival (n.) 復興、重新啟動
• dogged by problems 一再受困於問題
• committed to 致力於、承諾
• boost (v.) 提升、推動
• downgraded (adj.) 降級、縮減
• infrastructure (n.) 基礎建設

👉 雅思考試裡，這些字常出現在 Writing Task 2（政府、交通、經濟議題） 或 Reading passage

Step 3：轉換成雅思口說與寫作素材

在雅思考試裡，很多題目會問到：

• 交通：公共交通的重要性、高鐵的優缺點
• 政府政策：基礎建設該由政府還是私人企業投資？
• 地區發展：要不要把資源分配到鄉村與小城市？

你可以套用這篇新聞的內容：

Step 4：進階練習——改寫（Paraphrasing）

雅思作文很重視改寫（paraphrasing）

比如原文說：

“The government said it remains fully committed to Northern Powerhouse Rail.”

你可以改寫成：

• Officials stressed that they are determined to move forward with the project.
• The administration reaffirmed its dedication to completing the rail line.

這樣就能避免在寫作或口說中重複用相同的句子
